Phenolic resin is the earliest industrialized synthetic resin, but also the first emergence of synthetic adhesives, or modified the first structural adhesive, first used in aviation industry.

Phenolic resins are made by condensation polymerization of benzene and aldehyde in the presence of catalysts, and are used as adhesives for the low molecular weight of 500-1000 of the polymer.

Although the emergence of new adhesives, in many ways to replace the phenolic resin adhesive, but because of its own unique merits, its importance is not reduced initially, still will have a greater development and application.
